Can You Feel My Tears?

It all happened in 1992...it seems so long ago...but it feels like yesterday

I needed a vacation. A day after losing my job in a bank merger, all I wanted to do was pack our bags and return with my husband Steve to Hampton Beach, the site of our honeymoon, for some rest and relaxation. Two days before our trip, I moved briskly about the house tidying the kitchen, doing laundry, and making other preparations for a visit to the shore.

But the security of housework shattered when my husband's employer called to say that he had been rushed to the hospital after collapsing on the job. Suddenly my chief concern was no longer which paperback I should toss into the beach bag, but rather the life and death struggle facing Steve as he tried to survive the devastating effects of a brain aneurysm that had ruptured.

Plunged into a nightmare of surgeons, nurses, hospital rooms, and operations, I battle my own pain to aid in his recovery. I heed a nurse's advice and begin filling a notebook with questions and concerns about the challenges facing my beloved Steve. What begins as a laundry list of queries for his doctors evolves into a series of journals chronicling Steve's illness and my own fight to cling to the hope of his recovery.

Written to comfort and inspire other families who face a grave illness, this moving, deeply personal memoir Can You Feel My Tears? is a heart wrenching tale of loss and renewal and a testament to the love of life and the joy of family.

The Book:

All I wanted with this book was to be able to fill some voids that my husband may have had, and it turned out that there were so many families that went through what we endured.

I've shared our story with them, and by doing that I've perhaps made their journey a bit easier.

If I have, for that I am blessed. If I have, for that it may have made our darkest hours seem as though we lived through them with a purpose.
